September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer – the 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to decrease suicidal behaviors and save lives. QPR is one of the leading evidence-based programs in suicide prevention in the country. The intent is to identify and interrupt the crisis and direct that person to proper care. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a family member, a friend, a colleague, or a neighbor. A certified QPR trainer from Prevent Suicide PA will run this session. For more information, visit preventsuicidepa.org.
This training is open to parents and staff and ages 16 and older of the Harrisburg School District.
The free training begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Careerlink, 100 North Cameron Street. It is scheduled to run until 8 p.m.
